K-ON!! Season 2 episode #4

Summary

The Sakuragaoka High School seniors travel to Kyōto for their school field trip.

Plot

Yui ready for the school trip

Ui packed her sister's luggage for her.

In the morning, we see Yui packing a suitcase meticulously. Finishing her preparations, she ties her hair up, revealing herself as Yui's sister Ui, packing for her fast asleep sister.

Sawako posing with Yui, Ritsu and Mugi

Sawako is easily persuaded.

Later that day, the four seniors of the Light Music Club, Ritsu, Mio, Tsumugi and Yui are seen sitting inside of a Shinkansen on its way to Kyōto, the destination of the school field trip of senior classes of Sakuragaoka High School. Being unusually exhilarated, Yui and Ritsu annoy Mio with their behavior over and over again. As the others beg Mio to take a picture of them, their teacher Sawako Yamanaka orders them to sit down and be quiet. Ritsu and Yui try to persuade her to get in on their photo as well, which Sawako eventually agrees to reluctantly.

Mio and Yui headbang

Mio and Yui smashed their heads against each other.

On the way to its destination, the Shinkansen eventually passes Japan's largest mountain, Mount Fuji. Excited, Yui wants to take a picture of it and drops all her sweets on the floor. While trying to pick them up, she smacks her head against Mio's as the bassist tries to do the same. Irritated, Mio regrets being not in the group of her more mature friend Nodoka Manabe, who asked Mio to watch over Yui during the trip.

HTT inside the Kinkaku-ji

The group in front of the "Shariden"

Arriving in Kyōto, Ritsu starts a game where everybody has to speak in the Kansai dialect, which is common in Kyōto. As Sawako is taking roll, Yui falls asleep despite having done nothing tiring. While trying to take a group picture with the Kyōto Tower in the background, Sawako angrily orders them to board the bus.

The first stop is the Kinkaku-ji temple, where Ritsu quickly grows tired of her "Kansai dialect game". As they admire the sights, Tsumugi starts explaining the history of the famous "Golden Pavilion" with the name "Shariden" in a flawless Kansai dialect, earning applause from Yui and Mio.

Tsumugi explains the tea ceremony

Afterwards, they decide to drink green tea. Tsumugi stops Ritsu and Yui from gulping it down right away and teaches them the process of the traditional tea ceremony, eating the sweets first to bring out the bitterness of the tea.

Inside the Kitano Tenman-gū

Nodoka's group and the Light Music Club inside the Kitano Tenman-gū

The next stop is the shrine Kitano Tenman-gū, where the group meets Nodoka alongside Fūko, Hideko and Natsuka. Nodoka explains to them that the shrine is dedicated to the kami Tenjin, who is known as the god of scholarship. After Yui and Ritsu hear about how rubbing the shrine's cow statue can bring success in academic endeavors, the two start furiously rubbing the cow all over. Their sacrilegious actions earn them a dressing down from Sawako.

No long hair for ritsu

Yui laughing about her image of Ritsu with long hair.

Next, the group decides to write their prayers on an Ema. While they are doing so, they greatly disturb Sawako, who was buying an Omamori at the moment. This leads to another angry lecture from their teacher.

Arriving at the hotel, Tsumugi checks the room's pillows, while everyone gets ready for dinner. As Yui starts growing bored, Tsumugi pulls out a board game. Excited, Yui and Ritsu decide to eat some snacks which they regret consuming later at dinner.

Yui teasing Ritsu

Yui teasing Ritsu

After the meal, the group goes to take a bath together. After overhearing Tsumugi and Mio speaking about their hair, Ritsu thinks about letting her hair grow out as well which makes Yui laugh at her. While blow-drying her hair, Yui teases Ritsu further as the drummer is drinking milk by asking her if she wants to grow taller with her hair growth, causing Ritsu to spit her drink out.

Pillow fight

The group starts a pillow fight.

Back at their room, Mio is about to turn off the light when Tsumugi starts a pillow fight. Just as things begin to heat up, Ritsu hurls a pillow into Sawako's face on accident, the teacher having heard the ruckus the girls were making. After telling the girls to go to bed, Ritsu encourages them to do the exact opposite and starts the pillow fight once again. One exhausting battle later, the group finally goes to bed. Ritsu, however, is not willing to stay quiet for long and says random words like "skull" and "lycopene" to get Yui and Tsumugi to laugh uncontrollably.

Look over Kyoto

The group looks over Kyōto.

The next day, the groups are supposed to visit sites around Kyōto on their own. The Light Music Club is scheduled to visit Arashiyama. Ritsu and Yui want to visit a music store first. Mio is against this until she realizes the store carries lefty models as well, causing her to literally stick to the shop's window.

Souvenir for Azusa

Mio and Ritsu arguing about a souvenir for Azusa.

After arriving in Arashiyama, Mio wants to visit the tourist spot "Togetsukyō", but Ritsu and Yui rush towards the Iwatayama Monkey Park instead. Arriving there, the group is rewarded with a nice view over Kyōto. Tsumugi suggests visiting the Monkey Park as well since they are already there. Inside, she is too afraid to feed the monkeys until Yui shows her that it's not dangerous at all.

Outside, the group finds a souvenir shop and thinks about buying something for the club's youngest member Azusa, who is staying behind. While visiting a café, Yui and Ritsu remember that the money they were spending without reservation was actually to buy souvenirs for their families.

Yui calls Azusa

Yui calls Azusa.

After visiting some other spots, the group decides to head back to the hotel. They get lost quickly, and although they ask some locals for directions, they can't find their way back to the station. Yui has the brilliant idea to call Azusa for help, which leads to Mio scolding her since there's nothing Azusa can do about their situation.

Ritsu falls flat on the ground

Nodoka and the others are lost too.

Directly afterwards, the lost seniors are found by Nodoka's group, which is unfortunately just as lost as they are. Nodoka tries her best, but they're still unable to find the train station. At the most inappropriate moment, Ritsu starts saying random words again, causing Mio to break down and start laughing like a maniac.

Sawako scares the group

Sawako scares the group.

In the end, everyone safely makes it back to the hotel, where Mio laughs at every silly joke Ritsu tells out of relief. Inside of their room, Ritsu tries to scare Mio, just for Sawako to shut her down. After punishing Ritsu for being bold, Sawako is once again persuaded by Tsumugi's sweets to chat with the girls, and laments about the other students copying the group's habit of calling her "Sawa-chan", boring everybody.

As everyone else falls asleep, Yui thinks about the rest of the year in front of her and that it will possibly be the last one she spends with her friends together. At this moment, another teacher bursts into the room to wake up a sleeping Sawako, who chose to fall asleep with the girls instead of monitoring the rooms.

End of the school trip

The group laughing again

The next day in the Shinkansen, as the train passes Mount Fuji, Mio stands up to see the mountain through the window. In doing so, she spills her sweets just like Yui did before, causing the whole group to laugh again and Mio to admit that she is "just like Yui".

Trivia
