Kakifly (かきふらい Kakifurai) is the author and illustrator of the yonkoma manga K-ON! and the spin off series K-ON! Shuffle.

Person[]

Unfortunately, there is not much known about the person with the alias Kakifly.

Born December 16th 1982 in Kyōto. He joined his University's Light Music Club. During that time he became a mangaka and would create fanart and doujinshis of different series he enjoyed on a couple of his now inactive/deleted circle websites as well as attend various different doujinshi conventions.

His editor, S-HARA, met Kakifly at a doujinshi shop when looking for upcoming mangakas for Manga Time Kirara. He liked Kakifly's art and offered him a serialization in Manga Time Kirara. After 3 months of back and forth discussions, "K-ON!" was conceptualized with the Light Music Club setting based off Kakifly being in his University's Light Music Club. The focus of "K-ON!" would also be the friendship/time spent together rather than the club activities itself.

His series "K-ON!" became a great success and his most renowned work which was eventually adapted as an anime.

Sometime during 2017, after 4 years of inactivity, Kakifly and Houbunsha (publisher of Manga Time Kirara) got into communications with each other about creating a new series. After about a year of back and forth discussions, "K-ON! Shuffle" was conceptualized being a spin off to the original "K-ON!".

It is also known that Kakifly is left-handed, a feature that he placed in his characters Mio Akiyama and Riko Satou. He also likes to collect and play guitars. Has once said The Yellow Monkey was his favourite band. He likes to name his characters after various real life band members. For example Yui Hirasawa is named after the P-Model founder Susumu Hirasawa (平沢進) and Yukari Sakuma is named after Skirt band member Yuta Sakuma (佐久間 裕太).
