Ranka Ohtake (大竹 蘭花) is one of the characters of the series K-ON! Shuffle. She is a first year student that joined the Light Music Club with her middle school friend Risa after watching Yukari, Kaede and Maho's performance at the First Year's Welcoming Ceremony. She eventually became Risa And Her Happy Friends (Temporary) second guitarist.
Character[]
Despite her quiet personality and appearance, she is sincere and works hard. While it seemed she wasn't interested at first, she used her New Year's gift money to buy a guitar. In middle school she transferred from the Kansai region and only uses her native dialect when talking to Risa alone or the odd time without realizing. She is able to replicate the hair styles Risa does for people like Kaede's altered hair style.
Appearance[]
She has black hair, purple eyes and a calm look. She wears contact lenses, but before joining High School she used to wear glasses and had bobbed hair. Risa helped her change her look to what it is today.
Etymology[]
- The name Ranka means "orchid" (蘭) (ran) and "flower, blossom" (花) (ka).
- Ranka's surname Ohtake means "big, great" (大) (oh) and "bamboo" (竹) (take).
- Her surname (Ohtake) is taken from the Japanese rock band Mitsume band member Mao Otake (大竹 雅生, Ōtake Mao).
Trivia[]
- When holding back tears, she ends up making a scary face.
- Her favourite music genre is 90s rock.
- She is currently into foot acupressure.
- Her eye colour when not wearing contact lenses might be grey, as in Volume 3 Chapter 16 her eyes are shown to be grey and not purple. This might simply be an error or even alteration on Kakifly's part similar to Azusa Nakano's eye colour in the manga originally being a reddish brown before becoming grey near the beginning of OG Volume 3
- In the Yenpress localization of K-ON! Shuffle, Ranka's family name is translated as Ootake
- Also in the localization, when Ranka accidentally slips into her native Kansai dialect it is localized to be urbanized sounding e.g. "I toldja not ta tell anyone about that, dude!
