Risa Kawabe (川辺 リサ) is one of the characters of the series K-ON! Shuffle. She is a first year student that joined the Light Music Club with her middle school friend Ranka after watching Yukari, Kaede and Maho's performance at the First Year's Welcoming Ceremony. She eventually became Risa And Her Happy Friends (Temporary) Vocalist and doesn't play an instrument.
Character[]
She is often described by Maho as a Gyaru in both her looks and personality. She is very fashion active along with being responsible for Ranka's current hairstyle and Kaede's reoccuring hair down style. However her looks are not to be deceived as she works hard along with secret vocal training. She is very friendly to people and can easily exchange contacts with people due to her impressive communication skills.
Appearance[]
She has blonde hair, red eyes (in some artwork brown eyes), wears nail polish, a bit of make up and has a pink cardigan over her standard high school uniform. She also has a short skirt, however when in front of a teacher or in class she buttons up her cardigan and lengthens her skirt back to the proper long length. She is constantly checking up on fashion that abides by the school regulations.
Etymology[]
- Risa's surname Kawabe means "river, stream" (川) (kawa) and "environs, boundary, border, vicinity" (辺) (be).
- Her surname (Kawabe) is taken from the Japanese rock band Mitsume founder Moto Kawabe (川辺 素, Kawabe Moto).

- She struggles being thanked directly
- She becomes very jealous when seeing Ranka get closer to other people. As well as when other people pick up on Ranka's usual traits and body language, with her admitting it feels like Ranka is being taken away from her.
- It's hinted that Risa may have a crush on Ranka or is overprotective, as they have been shown to sometimes hold hands when walking home from school.
- Risa's hair goes from sharing the same blonde colour as Yukari to being a darker/strawberry blonde
- In some artworks, Risa's eyes are an orange-tinted brown instead of red. This is likely Risa's real eye colour with the red from her possibly wearing contact lenses
