Shuffle Volume 1, Chapter 12 is a chapter of the first Volume of the K-ON! Shuffle Manga by Kakifly.
Summary[]
It's winter break and Shinano decides to go to the society to practice before Kaede rushes to her crying for help. Yukari is there too revealing she's there because it's the winter break and needs to practice. Yukari mentions that that Kaede didn't oversleep with her thinking she won't need to go to her place to wake her up, right before Kaede pretends to be a sleep. Kaede says there's a lot she still doesn't understand, so playing alone doesn't. When she rang Riko up, she passed the responsibility to Shinano by saying she'll be at the society today.
Kaede mentions she can't get the image of the song she is playing with the roots being monotonous. She plays a bit but then slowly stops with her beginning to feel down. Shinano tells her to continue playing and joins in with her guitar, making it sound like a song. Kaede happily hugs Shinano over her able to play a song. Yukari reveals that they tried to play together once but they couldn't play the intro together and have just been practicing individually since.
Maho then rushes in shouting it's not fair that they're having Shinano teach them without her. She then asks Shinano to continue explaining the pentatonic scale, but doesn't really explain it well with just saying it's all about the feeling. Maho feels like she's being overly sloppy when teaching her and ask if it's because she's not good. Shinano reassures that isn't why and says she herself is just stupid. Maho then tell her she understands and will practice hard, which triggers Shinano to remember someone. Riko enters and greets everyone, but Shinano excuses herself to go to the bath room. Riko ends up finding her outside and apologies for leaving the girls with her today. Riko realizes the practice hard comment made Shinano remember what happened a year ago.
A flashback to one year ago shows Riko, Shinano and a certain girl practicing. The girl apologises to Shinano for messing up again with Shinano telling her not to worry since the audience won't be able to tell. The girl mentions if she does it all the time, it will just create problems. Shinano asks what's wrong and the girl says she's gonna practice hard.
Shinano mentions she was happened when the 3 of them played as a band, with her not noticing what happened around her. She reveals she's scared that someone might quit playing music because of her again. Riko says that she sucks at teaching people, while Shinano wants to be comforted. Riko reveals that she's been lying to the girls saying she doesn't have any musical experience, with her aware they know she is lying. She then tells her the reason for the lie is because she is Shinano's, leaving Shinano embarrassed. Shinano reassures Riko that she does want to play in a band with her, with Riko feeling the same and Shinano thanks her with a hug. Riko then shouts to Shinano that she needs to have more faith in the girls because of how hard the work than others. While remembers how happy Kaede was when they played a song a bit ago, she comes up with an idea. Shinano and Riko return to the society with Shinano announcing they're having a battle of the bands on the last day of winter break. This leaves Yukari and Maho shocked, along with Riko who wasn't expecting that.
