Shuffle Volume 1, Chapter 13 is the last chapter of the first Volume of the K-ON! Shuffle Manga by Kakifly.
Summary[]
Kurumi comes home mentioning it being cold outside. She notices extra shoes thinking it must be Yukari's friends. She then remembers it's the 24th of December. Thinking they're having a Christmas party she opens the door demanding to join in, only to find them all gloomy and Kurumi wondering if it's a witches coven. Yukari tells her that they are having a Christmas party, while Kurumi points out they're obviously trying to curse someone. She then notices Maho and they introduce each other. Maho stares at her thinking how this is Yukari's extraordinary sister, while Kurumi asks if there is something on her face
Yukari explains how Shinano announced a battle of the bands out of nowhere, that they're really good and revealing they was planning trying to curse them to have colds on the day so the battle is cancelled. Kurumi starts to think there has to be a reason for this when the outcome is obvious. She figures it out and tries to leave. Yukari realizes she thought of something and begs her to tell them. Kaede tries to bribe her with cake, but Kurumi managed to resist and leaves.
Yukari is shocked she left and Kaede mentions they have less than 2 weeks until the battle. Yukari asks what Maho does at times like this in the Basketball Club, but Maho explains they don't have matches against the seniors and only work on the basics and building their stamina the first year. Maho tells her the basics are important, but then Kaede interrupts and says that while the basics are important, so is being able to play together as a band. Maho instantly agrees with her while Yukari is holding back her commenting about what happened to the important basic.
The day of the battle has arrived with Shinano telling them to go first. Confident Yukari tells Shinano and Riko, they're going to defeat them and go to the prefecturals, leaving Shinano confused what movie that's suppose to be from. There's a flashback to the 24th of December with them talking about their problems. Yukari mentions she has a problem keeping with the rhythm. Maho suggests a metronome, but Yukari says Kurumi told her to stop since it reminds her of step exercises. Kaede says that she can keep with the rhythm while mentioning she has a problem with the first phrase of the bridge, with Maho agreeing to lead her. Yukari realizes everything will be fine if she gets Kaede to motivate Maho. Yukari then notices they never really talk about stuff like this and all agree they should like this more often. Yukari then immediately asks if Maho is in love with anyone, shocking Maho about it being so direct.
They then begin to perform their cover of Fuwa Fuwa Time with Yukari letting Kaede keep the rhythm and Kaede leading everyone. Riko tells Shinano this is why she should have had more faith in the girls. The girls finish playing and are happy with Riko noticing they all help each other with some of the difficult parts and some rearranged into simple phrases. Shinano asks if they had fun, with them all agreeing and then telling them she hopes they remember lyrics next time, with them realizing they forgot.
Riko and Shinano then start to get ready with Kaede noticing Riko is using bongo drums and Maho asks if they're making fun of them. Shinano them tells her they're showing there's all sorts of bands out there. They then start to play their own cover of Fuwa Fuwa Time. This leaves Maho shocked and Kaede crying tears of joy. Once finished Kaede hugs Shinano telling them they're awesome, Yukari amazed they was in perfect sync and Maho unable to believe it was only a guitar and bongo drums playing that. Riko mentions she didn't expect them to play so well either with Shinano mentioning how great it is when you play together and how she wanted the girls to experience that too. Maho is still confident that practice is also required too. She then tells Shinano if she wants to teach the joys of playing together then there must be a better way to do so, with Riko agreeing so. Shinano rebuttals saying they should play as a band more, with Maho saying she'll do it her own way, then quietly saying she'll give it her all every so often. Yukari then teases Maho while a certain girl is shown to be hiding just outside the door
