Shuffle Volume 1, Chapter 9 is a chapter of the first Volume of the K-ON! Shuffle Manga by Kakifly.
Summary[]
While at the Society, Yukari, Keade and Maho are trying to practice Fuwa Fuwa Time but are out of sync. Yukari wonders if they can even play together, Kaede states she gonna practice a lot and Kaede wonders how much experience with the instruments is needed. They then all ask Riko for help with her only responding confidently "You just gotta give it your all!". Maho wants something more specific with Riko explaining it's the advice from someone who used to be a member. Maho comments about the girls lack of care for detail with Riko mentioning her favourite phrase "Practicing with musical instruments is the same as weight training!" while Yukari imagines Maho lifting up her guitar. Kaede then tries to do it while Maho remembers the society used to have a lot of members and questions where they all are now. Riko reveals there were various reasons like some busy with studies and some not fitting in with Kaede understanding as the same happened at the Basketball Club. Riko then mentions about a girl who went abroad and was never heard of again.
Shinano then slams the society's door open and greets everyone. As she walks in mentioning she's not been in the room for a long time, she notices Yukari, Kaede and Maho. Confused she then demanding to know who they are with Maho doing the same. With Shinano scaring the girls, Riko steps in and tells her off by grabbing her cheeks with the girls even more scared. Riko demands to know what she's been doing and why she hasn't called with Shinano asking to be let go to explain everything. After introducing herself, Yukari and Kaede then comments if she was "the girl who ran off abroad" "and disappeared" leaving Shinano asking just what Riko told them about her.
Shinano explains she went on a short-term overseas student exchange program to experience some authentic music. She ended up getting offered a part time job to play at a bar. Riko asks if she made any progress with the language studies and Shinano replies she didn't with her laughing it off. After the girls introduce themselves, Shinano mentions they're awesome with not many girls wanting to play instruments nowadays. Yukari notices Kaede's good person sensor going off while Shinano pets Kaede. Shinano notices Kaede's bass and asks if she can play it. Kaede and Maho are amazed at how good Shinano is and Kaede asks Shinano to let her be her disciple. Shinano laughs at it and calls Kaede funny. She then gives them 'advice' revealing she is the "give it your all!" girl.
Shinano then announces she will be re-joining the society tomorrow. This causes Yukari and Maho to get excited as they can form a proper band and have legitimate activities. Shinano then rejects that and says that Riko is hers. This causes Riko to be embarrassed and confused demanding to know what she's saying. A blushing Maho then announces it's for her, the also blushing Yukari and the didn't understand Kaede to go home and tells Riko and Shinano to enjoy themselves. As the girls left, Riko starts shouting at Shinano saying she was worried about her. Shinano mentions she got to listen to all kinds of music but decided her place is here still. Riko then starts crying asking if she had nay idea how hard it was for her.
On the way home, the girls realize it's been a day with them seeing a different side to Riko and Kaede mentioning Shinano is a nice person. After Shinano had played on Kaede's bass, it fired her up wanting to work hard too. Maho then wonders if Riko was protecting the society for when Shinano comes back. She then realizes those 2 must be close, but then Yukari and Kaede grab her by the arm and mention they're just as close. An embarrassed Maho mention that people are looking with Yukari and Kaede telling her to not be shy.
